Farewell to Harriet

December 31st, 2010

Dr Harriet Dismore

December marked not only the end of 2010 but also the end of Harriet’s time with us here in Plymouth. She is moving on to a new role lecturing at Brunel and the rest of the team thank her for all her hard work and wish her all the best for the future. She has been heavily involved with most of the project and we hope to keep her involved wherever possible.

SSBR Festival of Assemblies

October 21st, 2010

The Pineapple and Telstar projects ran an APEL Assembly at JISC  event in Oxford yesterday. It was a good chance to have indepth discussions about some of the more knotty issues, such as group APEL claims, and to get colleagues’ views about some of the issues we have encountered.

We were very pleased to see that Pineapple products came first in the lunchtime Trade Fair. Many thanks to colleagues who voted for us and we hope that you find your products useful. Please check back for final versions of everything when the project is nearer to completion.

Pineapple attended the JISC Joint Information Forum event at Egham this week. This was the first JIF I have attended and I found it a really useful event from a practical project management perspective.  We were delighted to get the award for best poster.

Preview of Pineapple Core Software (Alpha)

August 20th, 2010

Well after many months of work we have an alpha version of the Pineapple Core ready. We have a bit more work to do on it before we look to trial it in September.

I have put together 3 short videos showing the administration, process management/design and the user end of the system. There are still bugs and things to work on but we feel the system is at a suitable level of development to be able to demonstrate it.

Action!

July 22nd, 2010

It was lights, camera, action this morning as the Pineapple crew got filming for some talking heads. It took us under an hour – now that’s what I call a wrap!

Recognition of Prior Learning Outcomes (RPLO) event

July 1st, 2010

Anne and I have just returned from attending a national APEL event at York St John. Presentations such as one on the strategic benefits of APEL in difficult times and group discussions on innovative practices were very useful. One issue is still recurring and that is the terminology and our understanding of it. Overall, lots of good contacts were made and York was lovely!

University of Plymouth TEL Showcase

June 17th, 2010

Yesterday the University held a showcase of TEL activities that are going on at the institution. As part of an exhibition of JISC funded projects at Plymouth, the Pineapple Project disseminated information and talked to lots of delegates. The team were wearing a variety of hats and also took the opportunity to promote the Uplace Repository project and the Uspace Web 2.0 project. A busy but enjoyable day with great cream cakes.
